By default, usb drives are optimised for quick removal. For folk like myself who have their usb drive permanently connected to their computer, this is not required, so we want to optimise it for best performance.

When I applied this change to my external usb drive, it had a noticeable positive impact on performance. To optimise your usb drive for performance, do the following:

1. open Windows Explorer (use the Windows key + E)
2. right-click your usb drive and select Properties
3. Select the hardware tab along the top of the window
4. Select your usb drive from the list and click Properties
5. Select the Policies tab along the top
6. Select "Optimize for performance" and click Okay

You'll most likely be told to restart your computer. Do so and you're all set. After the re-boot, you should detect a noticeable performance improvement.

This tweak is reversible. If you wish to revert to the original settings at any later stage, simply follow the method used above but select "Optimize for quick removal" at stage 6.

Important note: as your drive is no longer optimised for quick removal, if you do want to remove it, you MUST do so by using the "Safely remove" option from your status bar, otherwise you risk data loss.

Destiny of Man's Consciousness in the Age of Rationalism

What is destiny of man? Or what is destiny of humanity? There are several answers suggested by philosophers but very few could answer it correctly. Philosophies of infinity declare that mans destiny should not be less than his absolute freedom. Freedom not in relative term rather freedom from all relative phenomena. These philosophies were not meditated from the point of man as desiring being rather from the point of being as pure and eternal. Mans destiny thus is not to satisfy only desires rather to realize some more important truths of life. But philosophies of modern age declare another truth and decided another destination for humanity to achieve and it was desire. Desire became the sacred philosophical truth which bore the seed of modernity. And the epistemology that narrated the philosophy of desire was rationalism.

This great narrative of desire which was narrated from the reason took many turns, this time is has incarnated in the form of philosophy of post modernism. In the history of western thought philosophy of desire had always been central theme, it was necessary for every philosopher to make it central point of investigation. Reason which is always contradictory became mans light. This reason which narrates the desire was/is desire itself. It dismantled very thing which did not supported it. Desire is blind, it sees nothing accept desire. Thus all religions and religious philosophies became obscure, irrational, speculations; rationalism which declared hitherto existed everything irrational and speculations was itself speculative from the very beginning . started with Rene Descartes to till now, the philosophers of rationalism are speculating.

Science too which is based on the rationalist philosophy speculated not less and still is speculating however they declare that their theories are solely based on concrete observations. For example the concept of atom propagated by Vaisheshik philosophy was just speculation but the same thing when invented later by Dalton it became science. Though Dalton could not provided any proof other than a speculative hypothesis that there is a smallest particle in the matter called atom which later declared wrong since there were uncountable particles. Till today, science is speculating about the root of the matter, recently they have speculated that there is a phenomenon in the heart of the matter and thus cosmos, called string; on which everything is based. And this string is floating in time and space, it is both outside and inside, it is a kind of absolute element, from which everything is formed or which forms everything. But a symbolic expression of philosophies of infinity in this regard is useless and just an irrational idea. Einstein in his hypothetical journey once speculated that presence of mass curves space gravity is a property of space but before his death he declared that space has devoured ether and time; it seems to be on the point of swallowing up also the field and corpuscles, so that it alone remains as the vehicle of reality. But when a Vedanta philosopher says that space is primary element in the material phenomena it becomes speculation.

The rationalist- empiricist philosophy which is solely based on rational categorization of things, on sign system, on system of unity destroyed the very human endeavor to jump in the truth infinite. System of knowledge which was earlier free wandering in the matter of things became so rational and closed that it lost its inner wisdom. Rationalisms sole concern was not to take any flight rather to structuralize things, situations, events etc in order to hold power. Its major philosophical concern was to exploit people in the name of progress.

In all this progress of science and society, man was no where only there were concepts in which mans destiny was captured. Mans consciousness which he brought with him became a subject to be governed and all this was done with the political concept of common of rationalists. Man was bolted in the mechanism of common beyond it he has no individuality. Man is man through the common. The day this concept of common came into existence man lost his very freedom to think and meditate. It was Hobbes who formulated it first in his book Leviathan. He was the first rational political philosopher who said that, in the beginning, before the formation of society there was war (and it was for sex and material gain) to get rid of this bloody situation of war in which each was against each one; they came to form a common; a contract that from now on we are bound by a law of common. Of which king became head in which absolute sovereignty resided, no one could transcend his absolute sovereign power of law making and enforcing.

Since than, the theory of common is in practice, no political theory raised any question on the metaphysics of common in which man is destined to suffer. Since Hobbes, all the political theories only upgraded his theory, only refined it and made it more and more complex. Even most acclaimed revolutionary political theory of Marx too could not go beyond Hobbes. Only Heidegger raised question regarding reasons authenticity he said, the domination of intellect and logic has to be broken in order that we may raise question concerning being and nothingness. He contemplated on the relationship between man and every man (common). In being and time he said, the dictatorship of every man might be seen as a conservative, unimaginative narrow minded, and conformist way of endorsing a common cultural background, in which one identifies oneself entirely with traditional stereotype role. He too could not think beyond common though he was against mans rational positioning in the common. He says that one should learn to be responsible for oneself within the matrix of the common. Thus man can not free himself from the commonality of the common. But the Common which was formed as a system of law, in its later phase of evolution transformed in to a mechanism, of which there was a goal.

This goal, which was attributed to the common, was not of people who formed it rather of those who got hold on production mechanism. Thus the common got a goal that in its later development became universal. The goal which was set forth for the common was not any ideal or any virtue or any higher goal like liberation or moksha rather to produce. Production of materials and things related to materialism became the highest goal of common other than this what ever was existed became irrelevant. There is no pursuit of truth, if there is; it should be productive to the mechanism of production. This mechanism of production which is a movement of consciousness of self-interested rationalists, in which comes industrialists and philosophers, poets, cultural thinkers associated to it; is solely based on metaphysics of desire. Desire is the moving force of the production mechanism, in which desire is produced, things of desire is produced even culture of desire is also produced. In this production of desire man is transformed into a little beast, having lost his individuality, his freedom of consciousness; he dreams nothing other than the things of desire. This is the reason that there is no philosophy of dream, no literature of solitude, and no art which reveals mystery.

philosophy of desire became the enemy of goodness and godliness. In it every thing is bound by desire; it is the soul of all living beings. It is the soul of art and culture which has come to an end with the revolutionary appearance of culture industry. Mans consciousness which have lost its freedom has become common consciousness; the consciousness directed towards the goal to produce the humanity of sex and war. Mans consciousness in the movement of common consciousness neither dances nor sings, if he dances and sings it is because of his business; all sacred values are considered marketable and productive. Man has been dehumanized, objectified, and rationalized in the dynamic of materialist production. In the dynamic of production man is constructed, his subjectivity is defined and re-defined. through out history mans subjectivity has always been displaced, located, shifted from one system of production mechanism to another.

Is there any option other than the dynamic of materialist production which has now become universal concept of progress, in which man does not exist? When will man find his natural dwelling? When the set meaning of being in the world will change? Is being in the world is being through dynamic of materialist production? Isnt Heideggers suggestion a relevant one in this regard, that man should find an authentic condition of his existence in order to achieve the ideal of being authentically oneself. The ideal of being authentically oneself is what the ideal of Vedanta philosophy is. And later Vedanta as taught in Bhagvata Gita provides complete authentic condition for man to achieve his goal, which he can achieve without losing anything.

Karma yoga opens highway for humanity to reach its goal but without any accident, without any suffering. Rationalists think that there is no philosophy other than objective rationalism in which desire finds its eminence. Because they do say that all philosophies of infinite turn their face towards asceticism. These thinkers never come across the theory of karma yoga and Indian tantrik philosophies in which desire is not discarded rather is being put in a proper plane of idealist discourse. Desire is considered divine in Gita, the teacher of Gita says, desire is myself i.e. of the nature of truth itself; but only that desire which does not violate the law of Rit -the dharma underlying all phenomena.(dharma viruddhokamosmi).

In Buddhist Mahayana tantricism desire and passion is being considered as a path to realization of ultimate truth-Sunyata. In Indian philosophies desire has been regarded most important aspect of humans and it was never repressed as in the case of Christianity. In Christianity it is sin because of which man has fallen from the heaven but in Hindu philosophies it is desire when raised spiritually causes liberation.

But alas! Real question of materialist philosophers is not that that desire is not finding its eminence rather how desire could find a proper plane in their discourse of exploitation. Rationalist discourses on life never provided any solution for man. What they provided throughout the ages is the discourses of exploitations; this that how man could be enchained. How mans dignity and freedom of consciousness could be placed in the proper plane of materialist production machinery but not in materialist discourse since they know this that it can take a leap( it too can be dangerous for them). And in this they succeeded but since man can not live with bread only, every time they face problem from mans inner fluttering for liberation. This is why they go on philosophizing, creating bunch of philosophies.

Capitalist production machinery is spending a lot of money to produce a solution to the basic human problem of freedom but under the mechanism of common only. But they dont understand that reason can not provide any solution to humanity since it is divided and confused. Reason can not see the complete truth in its entirety. This is the reason that throughout its history it has a tendency to return back to theologies for support. Reason has destroyed all possibilities of mans leaping into unknown realities. It has destroyed the tradition of philosophizing the questioning of extra ordinary as Nietzsche have said. The philosophies of reason have always organized things, made arrangements, fitted man in a situation from where he could not escape. The whole history of rationalism shows that it has never had any holy purpose; it was vicious from the very outset, since than, when it rejected the very tendency of peoples questioning about infinity. It rejected mans quest for timeless value, a timeless truth not from the rational point of view rather from the sake of rejecting itself since it never fully took the systematic rational approach.

For instance, the approach of scientific experimentation is based on the to see the truth in the laboratory through physical means only, if any said truth is not tested in laboratory or through any physical testing mechanism it is bluntly declared false. Truth must be seen in microscope since only than it could be utilized, could be usable, could be made for production. Everything sublime was thus destroyed for the sake of materialist production. Though these philosophies of infinity were always helpful in providing humanity some immortal values as for as humanity as such is concerned. For materialist production mechanism these philosophies had been useful throughout the ages and still it is, but now some postmodernist want to destroy the remaining ties too. Because they want to make humanity utterly material, the materially refined man, a man-machine even they want to open factories where subjectivities would be produced.

In producing mechanical subjectivities culture would play the most important role as it played in history. Marxists have used it in their struggle against capitalism. This question of culture is most important regarding society of control and on this issue Theodore Adorno has fought most remarkable war against capitalist ideologues. Being Marxist he was always in the favor of autonomy of culture since he wanted to save mans being: pure and authentic. Culture is viewed as the manifestation of pure humanity without regard for its functional relationships within society. Against his approach to culture Researcher Mr. Paul reacted that Adorno should aspire to greater empirical precision, that culture might be precisely that condition that excludes a mentality capable of measuring it. Thus the capitalist intellectuals want to exclude people (those who can raise any question) from the field of culture in order to control them through the culture itself. New destiny of man is machine and he is becoming. All philosophies which advocate mans freedom through a system are administrative philosophies and are aspiring towards absolute power therefore are against man. When most sublime aspect of humanity is structured, becomes organizational, territorial, productive, and mechanical than know that man is dead. In this dark age of mechanical production of mans consciousness there is only light; to raise questions and wage a war against those criminals of humanity, who having lost all hopes in the divine play of life want to play the game of war and sex.

The different schools of yoga are really all based on the same movements, or yoga asanas, but they do it in different tempos and combinations in order to achieve specific results. The school's stated purpose can be a good place to start. For example, if you're looking to lose weight, you'll want one of the quicker-paced schools. If you're looking for spiritual repose, you may prefer a slower-paced yoga with longer holds. This is largely a matter of personal preference, and several schools may all meet a single type of need, so don't give up if the first one you choose isn't what you hoped for.

Finding the right kind of teacher to whom you'll respond isn't always easy. In the first place, there is no real certification processed or approved training sequence. Without these standards almost anyone can hold themselves out as professional yoga instructors.

Does she care about her students and watch over them carefully to assure they are doing the asanas correctly and in a way they aren't prone to injury? Does she correct not only with words, but also with gentle physical repositioning? Are you overly sore when you finish a session? This may be a sign of an unbalanced routine and another teacher may be in order.

When yoga teachers gather in a workshop to hear a lecture about communication - what is the first topic that comes to mind? Is it cueing skills, voice inflection, or when to ask a student for permission to assist? Those are important issues for anyone who teaches yoga, but lets take a look at many more areas that could use some work.

Communication is a two way street. How can we exchange ideas if students are made to feel stupid for asking questions? Granted, yoga classes cannot operate like an open forum, if you have a lesson plan in mind, but a student who is experiencing pain should not have to feel bad for asking about it. Nor should he or she have to wait until the end of class to ask an impatient teacher about his or her pain.

Listen Empathically: When a student asks a yoga-related question during class time, the yoga instructor present, should listen to all of the details. There are times when a yoga student asks questions, which are on the mind of many more classmates.

For some yoga students, it takes a lot of courage to ask a question in a group setting. Some students ponder questions for days before asking them. Their heart rate may rise because it took courage to ask the question.

With all this said, listening is a primary communication skill. As a yoga teacher, you are respected by your students, so do not violate a trust by bolstering your ego. The key is to listen intently, because you may have questions of your own, which will result in a deeper answer.

Who becomes a yoga students best teacher during hatha Yoga practice? His or her body, and mind, must eventually be the best Yoga teacher. If not, we have failed to give our students the gift of self-realization. To go further: yoga students must learn to think for themselves. If they are dependent on a yoga teacher, all the time, then our teaching method is flawed.

Why do I say this? If a student is not present for yoga practice, we must make him or her gently aware of it. There is no need to make students dependent on us. Good students will always return to yoga class.

I usually dont go on vacation. A vacation takes me out of my house, away from my keyboard, far from my wireless network. Ive grown to love the little conveniences of my home, the height of my desktop computer, the luxury of using my laptop even while cooking a big meal, the unexpected warmth of my dogs breath against my leg. Before even packing, I miss my bed, my bathroom, my EVOO.

A vacation poses a leap of faith into the unknown. Aside from my normal apprehensions about going way up in the air on some physics principles and prayers, I wonder about the accommodations which never seem to match the brochure. Furthermore, there are noises I am used to sleeping through, locks I feel secure behind, and small amounts of identifiable dirt I can live with peacefully. And then there is the matter of being idle. Vacationing people are not only expected to leave home and family, theyre expected to leave their work. Needless to say, I had more difficulty with the latter, but I did agree to give it the old college try.

Yellow-belly that I am, I did not brave the trip alone. In addition to members of my immediate family, packets of Immodium, and a big bottle of hair conditioner, I packed a few other writers for company. I packed a modest size notebook. I packed enough pens and pencils to rewrite War and Peace, all of which I carried around in my oversized purse, awkwardly lifting and dropping passports and tickets, removing and replacing the books innumerable times for Tic Tacs and gum, knowing it was worth any inconvenience to be able to read on demand.

At our destination, my family predictably abandoned me to pursue fun, and I set up shop. I angled a lounge chair out of the sun on a balcony facing the ocean, and pulled out the first of my books. I grabbed a bottle of water from the refrigerator in our suite, and sat out there a good thirty seconds enjoying the view, the breeze, the quiet, noting my husbands position on a sailboat in case he asked the way the kids used to ask if I had seen them doing tricks in the water. now my vacation was beginning. I was finally going to be able to enjoy someone elses work, without interruption.

The first ten pages were easy enough. And once I put the towel over my legs to keep from getting one of those sunburns I preached about to my kids, the second ten were bearable. During the next five or so, I finished the last of my peanut M&Ms from the airport, moving directly into my pack of Eclipse. And then I did my best to balance my sunglasses over my reading glasses, which worked, until there was no getting out of the sun on that chair.

As luck would have it, there was also a table and chair set on the balcony, which I could easily position in the shade, so I picked up my water bottle, my towels, my purse, my book, and changed locations. So I was upright. Being upright didnt preclude relaxation. I methodically noted the position of my daughter and husband now in a yellow kayak, acknowledged the mountains, the palm trees, my son who came to get his bathing suit, the heat of the sun, the strength of the breeze against the pages of my paperback, and then this strange black bird which started yelping insistently. I stood up as if to ask why it was disturbing my newly found peace. It seemed to be cursing me out, again and again, until I knew how Dorothy felt to be so very far from Kansas.

Offended, I clutched the railing of the balcony, mourning my lack of peace, wondering how early they started serving tropical drinks at the bar. The bird was relentless. What, I asked myself, could it possibly want from me? I was a stranger, invisible to the other, nicer birds who didnt feel the need to keep calling out to me. I stared up at the sky until my eyes watered, watching this bird for any Hitchcock leanings. He was definitely a screamer. Mom? That would be my luck. While the other tourists were bobbing to reggae, I was under attack by the winged ghost of my mother.

Suddenly I seemed to wake up and understand where I was. I wasnt on vacation. I had traveled into a wonderful new setting! I immediately reached for my notebook and cursed the very resolve that brought me here without my computer, because I was certain I would never be able to write as quickly as necessary in order to capture every sight, smell, and sound for some future story. Six pages later, the ocean still rolled about laughing at me. Bring it on, I smirked. I had towels. I had water. I had a whole new world to imagine.

Part 1 walt Disney World

Disney films were a staple when I was growing up, and we went to Disneyland in California dozens of times; my greatest ambition in those days was to live at Snow White's castle! So to say that I am a disney Fan is a bit of an understatement. When I moved to Florida from the West Coast, I took every opportunity to visit walt Disney World in Orlando and never tire of the parks. The last four years I lived there, I even had a clerical job for one of the disney companies, off property and though I wasnt employed in the Park itself, I was thrilled to be small part of the magic.

We moved back to the West Coast and its been nearly a decade since Ive had the chance to go back, so an upcoming anniversary seemed like the perfect excuse to make a trip. I planned, saved, and dreamed of the trip for months anxious for the day we departed surprising my husband who thought we were doing something else. When we arrived at SeaTac, he found out the destination was Orlando, and good naturedly went along for the ride! Since our last few vacations had been fishing trips, this was set to be a very different kind of trip.

After flying all night, we arrived in Orlando around 7:00 a.m. I had been dreaming of pecan waffles for months so we headed straight to The Waffle House, a fixture in the South; thus energized we headed to walt Disney World to check in our hotel. Since it opened in 1990, I had always been particularly fond of Disneys yacht & Beach Club resorts, and we finally were able to stay at the Beach Club! The New England beach theme is charming and relaxing. Since it was early December, the Christmas decorations were all in place and added a unique enchantment to the setting, including a gingerbread carousel.

The hotel was able to allow us early check-in, so we changed and walked to the International Gate at EPCOT, which is near the France pavilion. The morning was bright and warm, and it was blissful to just walk around the grounds soaking up the sun. We spent a couple of hours scoping out what was new since wed last been there, and enjoyed a couple rides before heading back to the hotel in mid-afternoon. Since wed been up all night, we slept for a short time, and were refreshed for a simple appetizer dinner at one of the bars amazing Shrimp cocktails.

The next day we spent most of the day at EPCOT again, taking the time to really explore and enjoy another glorious warm and sunny day. Though there are many familiar exhibits and rides, many have been updated and several new rides awaited our discovery, and everything met our expectations. mission Space and Test Track were thrilling and exciting and the grounds were especially beautiful, as always!

Since it was our anniversary, we had a special celebration dinner at the Yatchsman Steakhouse, and I even had my first taste of Louis the XIII de Remy Martin cognac. Then we walked back to EPCOT for the nightly Illuminations Fireworks display and then spent the rest of the balmy evening relaxing in the hot tub and going for a swim, with a clear starry sky overhead.

On the 2nd day of our trip, we spent the morning wandering around at downtown Disney, where we enjoyed lunch at Planet Hollywood, explored the new (to us!) disney quest then headed to Disney MGM Studios where we spent the afternoon enjoying the exhilarating Aerosmiths Rockin roller Coaster, the Twilight Zones Tower of Terror, favorites like Star Tours, and others. A Christmas-themed parade capped off the afternoon, and we took the water launch back to our hotel where we walked around the grounds again. On the way out of the hotel early that morning, we happen to notice several turtles resting in the sun in one of the ponds on the property, and spent a long time watching them before we started the busy day.

The next day we spent the morning at Magic Kingdom, enjoying Pirates of the caribbean, haunted mansion, Space Mountain, and Mickeys Philharmagic, a hilarious 3D movie staring Mickey Mouse and the irrepressible Donald Duck! We then headed to Disneys Grand floridian Resort & Spa where we were booked for a spa treatment. We then enjoyed dinner at Narcoosees, nestled right on the shores of Seven Seas Lagoon with a perfect view of the Magic Kingdoms nightly fireworks displays. The Christmas decorations at the Victorian-themed Grand floridian are meticulous and charming including a life-sized gingerbread house, and even toasty hot roasted chestnuts!

Though this was to be the last of our 4 days at the walt Disney World Resort, more adventures awaited, as I had also booked a 3 night disney Cruise to the Bahamas. We spent most of our time at walt Disney World peacefully enjoying the familiar and exploring the new, and even though we never made it to some of the newer attractions like animal Kingdom, the Sports Complex, or any of the water parks, we felt like we had done so much, relaxed, and truly enjoyed each day to the fullest!

"How to play online poker on a Mac?" This is a question that I have been asked a few times, and here we're not talking about the few online poker rooms that provide a download able mac version of their software. No, here we're talking about those online poker rooms that don't offer any kind of mac possibilities (no install able application, no browser version, etc.), thus leaving all the mac poker enthusiast out!!!

I myself am a mac user, because it has simply the best and very user friendly operating system. Though, I also own a Windows computer, since I can't live without one for several reasons. My mac is a Power Book G4 and is about 2 years old. This means it doesn't have the Intel processor that current mac Pro's have. Not having an Intel processor is a huge disadvantage if you're looking in ways to run a stable version of Windows. I basically spent hours trying to get everything to work, just to be able to play online poker on my mac. Sure, these hours may be less if you have experience, but I did not (just like many others out there).

This article will be divided in two sub articles from here. You may be interested in reading both, but most probably you will just read the article that fits your mac.

First Sub: mac WITHOUT INTEL

OK, so this is the situation I am in. I love to play online poker, but I hate to be sitting upstairs all the time. Besides me, my girlfriend hates it as well and she has told me that several times! I have a wireless network installed, so I can use my laptop anywhere in the house. At first I was playing online poker at rooms with the ability to play on a mac. Unfortunately these rooms are not my favourite. Don't get me wrong, there are seriously some great online poker rooms available for the mac. It's more like a personal thing.

Well, because I really wanted to play at this particular online poker room, I have Googled for a solution and found several options.

I found out later that the easiest way to run Windows on a mac is by installing Virtual PC 7. It creates a Windows machine on your Mac. It's also not so expensive, since you can choose form several versions: XP Pro, XP Home, Win 2K Pro, and a standalone version for people who own a copy of Windows. The retail prizes range between $129 for the standalone, up to $249 for the Pro versions.

Let's me start by telling you this: "If you can afford it, this is what you want!" Virtual PC 7 makes it possible to run PC programs and peripherals right from your mac, but even better is that Virtual PC 7 runs in a window when using your mac operating system! It brings a lot of advantages to your mac, which might not all be related to this article since we're specifically talking about "how to play online poker on a mac". At the command prompt, type ipconfig.
Write down the IP address on a piece of paper.

You can now try to connect to your Windows-based computer using the Remote desktop Client on your mac by connecting to its' IP address.

On your mac, open Remote desktop Connection.
In Computer, type the IP address.
Click Connect.

A Golf Tip To Promote A Proper Backswing

Some golfers are amazed that on one shot they hook the ball with their golf swing, and with the next shot they shank it in completely different direction. If you use backspin at all, chances are you, at one time or another, have had a problem with the shank.

The source of this problem is in the first few feet of the back swing. Instead of having a solid one-piece takeaway where the arms, shoulders, club and waist all move in unison, it is likely the hands initiate the takeaway and roll the clubface open.

When this occurs the butt end of the club will be pushed away from the body, the clubface then coming too far inside the target line and hands, promoting a flat back swing. The only way to get the face of the club back to a solid impact position is to roll it (clubface) back to its starting position.

If this is overdone, the clubface will be closed and promote a hook shot. Or, if the butt end of the club is still farther away from the body than at address, youll see a shank.

The golf Back swing Corrected:

As you initiate your back swing, the left forearm should rotate slightly away from the golf, in synchronization with the starting of the body turn.

The action of turning in the back swing will push the clubhead a bit inside the target line, but maintains a position outside of the hands.

Imagine the butt end of the club originating the back swing, and that you are attempting to slightly brush your right thigh with the club during initial few feet of the swing. This promotes the head of the club to say outside the hands in the beginning and move just inside the target line.

To practice:

In your golfing stance prepare as you would when beginning your golf swing. Now, slide your hands down the club shaft, with the butt end of the club sticking slightly into your waist. Take a couple of practice swings. You should become acutely aware of the butt end of the club and its importance as the originator of the back swing.

A solid golf swing begins within the first few feet of the takeaway. Do this properly and youll well on your way to a more solid and fundamental golf swing and playing better golf.

This quote from Gandhi is usually invoked to silence the complainer. You know, if you cant put up, shut up.

Recently, I received the full quote, Be the change you wish to see in the world, at the bottom of an email from my Wednesday night yoga instructor, Tracy. Each time we begin and end a class, we sit in silence and think about our relationship to the natural world and the other creatures in it. Its a good centering activity for remembering our mutual interdependence and our responsibility for shepherding the good in life.

Having this intention during each class helps me to work on the different poses with more concentration and success. And, I leave most classes humbled by my struggle with the physical practice and also the notion that there is so much more I could do to improve life for myself and others.

But then Im quickly back in my usual day to day, regularly noting all of the things that are amiss in the worldour dependence on oil, global warming, corrupt politicians, inequity in health care deliveryand not doing much of anything about it all. Except grouse and complain.

Noticing What Needs Attention
most days, I take my dogs for a circular four mile walk near our home. We begin and end on dirt roads, but the middle of our walk is along a relatively quiet paved road that connects Hillsboro and Washington, NH. It is a residential area, abutting woods and for the most part very pleasant.

However, months ago, out on my own on a slightly rainy day when I left the dogs at home, I counted over sixty bottles and cans, assorted plastic containers, and other stray articles along the route. The counting was simply an exercise to pass the time and a curiosity to me that this tranquil area could be so heavily trashed when so lightly trafficked. Angry that others could be so insensitive and selfish, I promised myself that I would get back out there within the week to clean up what I had noticed. I did not.

With three leashed pups in tow on subsequent walks, I let myself off the hook for picking anything up. It would be nearly impossible to carry a big trash bag while busy tending my charges. Besides, I would pick up stray plastic six-pack holders, so that a bird wouldnt get its neck caught. And Id also snare pieces of broken glass in the road so another dog or walker wouldnt get cut. I was doing something. But each day I took that walk, I felt a tug of guilt over my failure to follow through on cleaning up the wake of castaways now buried beneath taller grass.

Vindication by Taking Responsibility
There is much in the world that seems outside of our control. By myself, I cant change a culture where so many drivers consider their personal automobile space more important than the natural world. Alone, I cant end teenage drinking. Without everyone agreeing to use fewer disposable products, I cant stop roadside deposits of refuse.

We often complain on a general level that the world is going to pot, but we know to make any more noise would call attention to the fact we havent done much toward fixing the things that need attention. Thats a sneaky, contributing source to apathy. How can we stop intense consumerism, blind disregard for the safety of others or make other accountable for their actions in any meaningful, if we fail to take responsibility for what we see?

I can shake my fist and scream, Dont be such a pig! Because its not my trash, and I obviously care about the natural world. But where does that get me? Once I see what needs to be done, its up to me alone to follow up in any way that I can. If I take action, then I can claim positive contribution and be more at peace knowing that I did make a difference. And then I really can raise a hornets nest of complaint, and urge others to do as I have.

Moving from Complaint to Action
So much of what is out of whack is within our control, if we break what seems large and overwhelming down into smaller tasks or projects. Or simply take responsibility for doing our small part.

It took me twice as long to walk that four-mile loop, when I finally stopped to pick up all the trash Id been noticing for months. My haul was substantial: 60 aluminum cans, 10 whole or broken bottles, 20+ assorted plastic and paper containers, and an ugly pile of other tangible evidence that I noticed and did something about it.

Picking up trash along the side of the road may not seem like much. But every day I take that walk, I enjoy my surroundings that much more knowing that Ive chosen to be an active steward to keep it clean. If I find a new can or bottle in the days ahead, it will be only one I need to pick up to preserve what is beautiful and shared by all.

Warm Sesame-Oil Massage: A Yummy Yoga Treat! (And Great Way of Calming Vata)

The art & science of Ayurveda (a close cousin to Yoga) perceives, maps & speaks of the human body in terms of the three Doshas ~ Vata, Pitta and Kapha ~ each of which governs a different aspect of our lived experience. Though all three Doshas operate within every (living) person, each of us manifests a unique (and ever-changing) combination of their attributes. The predominant pattern of this combination within us gives rise to what is known as our Tri-Dosha type, or constitution.

The Vata Dosha, which will be the focus of this article, corresponds to the elements space and air. As such, it governs all movement in our human physiology, from the subtle, fleeting movement of thoughts across the screen of our mind, to the coursing of blood through our arteries and veins, to the movements of our limbs and pranic body in a yoga asana practice. The Vata Dosha can be, within this system, divided further into five sub-doshas, each of which represents the functioning of Vata in a specific part of the body. These sub-categories (which correspond to Yogic divisions of Prana) are: prana, udana, vyana, samana & apana.

When Vata is in balance, we are alert and spontaneous in our mental, emotional & physical movements. Our intelligence is active in a relaxed and fluid way. We are spacious without being spaced out.

When Vata is out of balance, we manifest symptoms such as: worry, stress, anxiety, fatigue, an over-active mind, restlessness, agitation, difficulty sleeping and mood swings. There are also physical symptoms of out-of-balance Vata, such as dry skin or constipation though my focus here is more on the emotional/mental aspects. [Just an aside: these are symptoms which are often given, within western medicine, the diagnosis of ADD or adhd hmmm ]

So how do we bring an out-of-balance Vata back into balance? ayurvedic suggestions for doing this include:

(1)Maintaining a regular daily routine with respect to meal-times, exercise & relaxation, and sleeping times. Early to bed & early to rise tends to be best for Vata and if youre having trouble sleeping, try drinking a cup of warm milk with a pinch of ground nutmeg, right before bed.
(2)Eating warm cooked meals (as opposed to cold or raw foods) which include oils (e.g. ghee or sesame or sunflower oil) and/or oily foods (e.g. nuts, seeds, olives, avocados).
(3)Living in a warm moist climate with lots of fresh air and sunshine (e.g. Hawaii or at the least, buy a humidifier!).
(4)Wearing clothing that is either warm (e.g. red, orange, yellow) or calming (e.g. green) in color.
(5)Choosing for leisure calming activities such as walks in nature or parks (see my previous post on Walking Meditation!)
(6)Treating yourself to a warm oil massage the really yummy thing which will now be described in a bit more detail

A delightful way of calming an out-of-balance Vata is to give yourself a warm-oil massage. The oil that is best to use for Vata imbalance is sesame oil (organic un-roasted cold-pressed is the very best). So buy yourself some oil; warm up about 1/3rd cup or so (in a small pan on your stove, medium heat); turn up the heat in your house; spread a large towel or a sheet on the floor; and then ~ from head to foot (including your hair and scalp!) ~ work the warm oil into your skin, using circular massage-strokes. When youve finished, cover up so that you stay really warm, and let the oil soak into your skin for a half-hour at least. After youve relaxed like this for a half-hour or hour, then take a warm shower, washing off any excess oil (which hasnt by this time been absorbed into your skin). Apply a light moisturizing lotion after the shower (to seal the oil thats already there) and notice how you feel!

If you do this weekly or even daily, when youre experiencing Vata-imbalance symptoms, youll very likely notice a shift notice the balanced-Vata qualities of relaxed alertness and joyful spontaneity emerging once again.

Asphalt Shingle Roofing - The Facts

Is it any wonder why almost 80% of homes in north america use asphalt shingles as the roofing material of choice. The prevalence of asphalt shingles has created a vast assortment of fittings and fixtures designed to work with them. Items such as a multitude of flashing configurations, edge products, and almost every skylight manufactured has an appropriate base configuration for a weatherproof connection with asphalt shingles. All of the material that you need for a proper installation, such as the shingles, tarpaper, nails, vent boots and chimney flashing are available at any home improvement retailer.

The primary attributes of asphalt tiles are:

reasonably priced (economical),
require very little maintenance,
versatile,
provide excellent protection on steep sloped roofs,
are weather and sunlight resistant,
easy to cut,
can be nailed by hand or with powered nailers.

There are two different types of asphalt shingle base material construction - composition and fiberglass. Composition shingles use a base material termed organic felt, which is a blend of paper and wood fibers. Fiberglass, on the other hand, uses a base that is comprised of a fiberglass mat. In both cases, once the base material is produced it is soaked in an asphalt compound. In numbers sold, fiberglass leads the market. They are less expensive, weigh less because they are thinner, have a longer wear life and have a better fire rating than the composition base shingles.

Although these additional features do increase the price per square, asphalt shingles are still the most economical roofing material available.

Drawbacks:

The serviceable life of asphalt shingles is the lowest of all the roofing materials. Although they are available in numerous grades designated by the expected life, from 15 to 50 years they often need repair or replacement long before their supposed life has expired. The hotter the climate, the shorter the life of asphalt shingles. Many of the asphalt shingle problems that are encountered by homeowners are a direct result of two factors:

poor initial installation
damage due to sever weather

Poor installation usually occurs in the area of deck preparation, and not providing adequate flashing around items that are protruding through the roof such as vent pipes and chimneys. Other poor installation methods are not using the required amount of nails per shingle and nailing in the wrong area of the shingle. There are many fly-by-night roofing companies that will quote low prices, because they won't be around to stand behind the workmanship. Choose a roofing contractor carefully.

Roof Repairs:

You should inspect your shingled roof and all the flashing at least once a year and after any major storm such as a hurricane. hurricane winds will remove entire shingles and lift others. sun and rain can cause asphalt shingles to crack. You should also go into the attic and look up, any sign of daylight means that there is a hole. When inspecting the roof look for shingles that have lost the granule minerals - bald spots, cracked and/or curled.

If you have to make a roof repair, choose a warm day so that the shingles will be flexible and unlikely to crack when lifted. The roofing cements also spread easier in warmer temperatures.

You will know when you have a roofing problem when you see beige spots appearing on ceilings and walls close to the ceiling. Beige spots are a sign of water damage.

Maintenance:

Roofing cement is the equivalent of duct tape for roofs. It will repair most leaks, cracked or torn shingles, patch flashing around vent pipes and chimneys. You can also use the roofing cement to cover nail heads that have been exposed.

Shingles fade with age so any replacement shingles used will most likely be visually obvious. Shingle over damaged ridge shingles, by nailing down all the corners of the old shingle first - do not remove them.

If you have to replace an entire shingle, lift each of the tabs and pry the nails out of the shingle of the one that needs to be replaced. Remove the top corners of the replacement shingle and very carefully, without damaging the tarpaper, slip it under the existing shingles.

Use roofing nails (large head, galvanized) to fix the new shingle to the roof decking. Use roofing cement to cover the nail heads.

There are two things you should do:
